Fundraising for Arhuaco Music Center
Completed 2016

Back in sixth grade, when I learned about the indigenous tribes of the Sierra Nevada and challenges they faced, I at once knew that I wanted to help. Through my mom, I eventually got in contact with the Arhuaco tribe and asked them how I could help. After talking to the Arhuaco, I decided to start a fundraiser to help finance the construction of a music center in an Arhuaco village located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, near Palomino.

The fundraiser was carried out in my school in Los Angeles, where I sold Arhuaco crafts, such as mochilas and bracelets. I also created and sold a little kid's book titled Haison and Nevada that aimed to explain the Arhuaco cosmovision and way of life.

After raising enough money, I transferred it to the Arhuaco so that they could begin the construction. A few months later, I actually visited the site of the now finished music center. I was lucky enough to speak to the Arhuaco's "mamo", or spiritual leader, and see the culmination of my project.
