Caring for Seywiaka

Seywiaka is a Kogi community located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia. It is only accessible via a rugged two hour hike into the mountains starting from the coastal city of Palomino. Home to around 250-300 indigenous people, it is one of the main Kogi educational centers in the Sierra Nevada. As such, it is responsible for passing down the wisdom of the Kogi and Tayrona ancestors to future generations and for preserving the Kogi culture and language.
Today, Seywiaka faces a number of challenges that threaten its inhabitants. The most pressing issue is the need for vast infrastructural improvements. The houses need to be reinforced to prevent bat infestations, the windows remodeled, the ceilings fortified, and the bathrooms repaired. Apart from the aforementioned architectural needs, Seywiaka's electrical system needs to be fixed and the school needs to be expanded to accommodate secondary education.
From architectural problems, to sanitary problems, to electrical problems, the community is in dire need of help. At CFC Youth, we are committed to aiding the Seywiaka community and its people. If you are interested in helping the Seywiaka community, please consider donating or contact us with any questions!
